Two teenagers were taken into custody early Thursday after five of their relatives were found stabbed to death*in a home in a bedroom community in eastern Oklahoma, according to police.
The two, ages 16 and 18, were arrested after officers were called to a property in Broken Arrow, southeast of Tulsa, late Wednesday.
The five victims were stabbed, the Associated Press and NBC News report, citing police.
Police say the pair — whose genders were not immediately available*—*were seen running out one of the back doors of the house, KJRH-TV reports,*and were tracked down by police dogs*to*a wooded trail nearby.
A child victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition and another child was found unharmed, Sgt. Thomas Cooper, of the Broken Arrow Police Department, said in a statement.
Cooper said the victims and the two suspects were members of the same family, and that all of them all lived at the home, NBC News reported.
Broken Arrow, with a population of around 100,000 people,**is on the Arkansas River just southeast of Tulsa and the home is in a well-established neighborhood surrounded on three sides by the Indian Springs Country Club.
Property records showed the home sold for $245,000 in 2007, and Tulsa County tax records show it was among the larger and most-expensive homes on the block.
Helen Hoagland, who has lived in the subdivision for 42 years, said two parents and five children lived in the home, and said she would sometimes see the mother walking with several children. Hoagland said the children were home schooled and that the mother kept them on a tight leash.
Hoagland said the children used to help decorate the neighborhood’s entrance each Christmas, but that they stopped taking a few years ago.
“We just have a great neighborhood. That’s just crazy; it’s absolutely crazy,” Hoagland said as she watched police work the crime scene before dawn.
