Whooping cough vaccine's*protection fades, study finds
Today's version of the whooping cough vaccine leaves teens vulnerable to infection as they age, says a new study out Friday. The current vaccine, which has been in use since the 1990s, is safer but less effective than the old version, says the study in Pediatrics. The findings could help explain why the USA has seen a resurgence of whooping cough. Children should get five doses of vaccine by kindergarten and a booster at age 11 or 12. The CDC also recommends adults ages 19-64 get a booster.

WikiLeaks founder Assange 'arbitrarily detained'
The United Nations ruled Friday that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been "arbitrarily detained" by the United Kingdom and Sweden since he was arrested in 2010 and that he should be allowed to leave Ecuador's Embassy in London without facing arrest. The British and Swedish governments disputed the claim.
