[h=3]China tries to forget 50th anniversary of Cultural Revolution*[/h]Monday marks the 50th anniversary of the*day Mao Zedong issued the order that began China's Cultural Revolution*— a ten-year period of violence and chaos in which more than 1 million perceived counterrevolutionaries were imprisoned,*killed or committed suicide and the economy was left in a shambles. But China’s current Communist leaders would prefer to obliterate any memory of the*embarrassing period for fear it might weaken their*grip on power.
