Record-breaking lottery prize up for grabs
Estimated to be more than $800 million and larger than the gross domestic products of about a dozen countries, it is the biggest lottery jackpot in U.S. history. And on Saturday night at 10:59 ET, Powerball's most enormous prize is up for grabs. With odds of 292.2 million to one, the pot has grown steadily in recent weeks as the numbers drawn have failed to match the tickets bought and more bettors are drawn by the burgeoning big bucks at stake. Divided between coming up with your own numbers or relying on a random-number computer drawing? It doesn't make a dime's worth of difference to your chances, says the Multi-State Lottery Association, which oversees the action. Good luck!

NFL playoffs begin with wild-card games
It could feel like 20-below zero for Sunday’s wild-card game between the Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks, one of the coldest games in NFL history. So cold, in fact, that the teams have access to special underwear for the occasion.*Division rivals*Pittsburgh*and Cincinnati play Saturday night in the "do not interrupt us" game of the weekend. Glitter and gift*of*the*gab in store at Golden Globes
Think of it as the rowdy cousin of the uptight Oscars. With booze at the tables, TV categories in the mix and the oft-provocative Ricky Gervais*returning as master of ceremonies, the Golden Globes will kick off the awards season in style on Sunday at*8 p.m. ET on NBC. And while the actual winners won't offer us much help in predicting the Academy Awards, winning one couldn’t hurt anyone’s chances.*USA TODAY's Brian Truitt*took a shot at predicting the winners*—*do you agree with him? Either way, we'll*be on the red carpet and in the ballroom Sunday*so you won't miss a single gown, joke or acceptance speech. The Consumer Electronics Show*comes to a close
Too many gadgets, not enough time.
