'Charlie Hebdo' victims remembered one year later
Thursday marks the<span style="color: Red;">*</span>one-year anniversary<span style="color: Red;">*</span>of the terrorist attacks<span style="color: Red;">*</span>at the Paris offices of satirical newspaper<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Charlie Hebdo.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Brothers Cherif and Said Kouachi<span style="color: Red;">*</span>stormed the newspaper's offices on Jan. 7, 2015,<span style="color: Red;">*</span>beginning<span style="color: Red;">*</span>three days of terror that left 17 people dead.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Three plaques were unveiled in the French capital this week to remember the victims.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Charlie Hebdo<span style="color: Red;">*</span>released a special anniversary issue<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Wednesday, with the cover depicting a bearded "God" dressed in white with a Kalashnikov over his shoulder.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>The cover is accompanied by the words "One year later: The assassin is still on the run."

President Obama<span style="color: Red;">*</span>participates<span style="color: Red;">*</span>in town hall on guns
President Obama will take part in a<span style="color: Red;">*</span>televised town-hall-style event on CNN at<span style="color: Red;">*</span>8 p.m. ET<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Thursday<span style="color: Red;">*</span>called Guns in America, following his emotional announcement earlier this week of a series of executive actions aimed at reducing gun violence. The<span style="color: Red;">*</span>actions are an attempt to clamp down on unlicensed gun sellers who exploit an exception for hobbyists and collectors in order to avoid having to run criminal background checks on gun purchasers. Gun violence is a top priority of Obama's administration in the new year.

NBC's new streaming service goes live
NBC's new ad-free streaming comedy<span style="color: Red;">*</span>service debuts<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Thursday. At launch, the subscription channel, called Seeso, will be available on http://www.seeso.com,<span style="color: Red;">*</span>iOS and<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Android.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>The channel costs $3.99 per month.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>NBC is hoping Seeso will help it better reach millennials, who are increasingly streaming content to their phones or computers. In addition to providing ad-free clips and next-day reruns of NBC's late-night programming, the service will also let users<span style="color: Red;">*</span>stream episodes from other shows in the network's library, including 30 Rock, The Office and Saved by the Bell.

Medical marijuana set to debut in New York
New York will join 22 other states and the District of Columbia when it launches its medical marijuana program on<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Thursday,<span style="color: Red;">*</span>with eight dispensaries opening for business.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>The program has been 18 months in the making after Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the Compassionate Care Act in July 2014. Five manufacturers are expected to open 20 dispensaries across the state. Non-smokeable forms of medical marijuana will be available to patients who register and receive a prescription from a certified physician, who is required to take a course to be approved by the state.

Golf's best tee off in Hawaii
The first PGA tournament of the year, the Hyundai Tournament of Champions,<span style="color: Red;">*</span>kicks off Thursday in Maui. Expect all eyes will be on golf's Big Three: Jordan Spieth, Jason Day and Rory McIlroy. That goes for No. 1 Spieth in particular, whose 2015 wins include the Masters and the<span style="color: Red;">*</span>U.S. Open. Of course, there's always something to be said about up-and-comers; this year, that includes Brooks Koepka, who has been on the rise since 2013 and is currently ranked No. 16.
