The honor could go to defending champions Crimson Tide.*They*lost several key pieces, including Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry, but return a stingy defense. Clemson, the team Alabama beat in last year’s title game, is another contender with star quarterback Deshaun Watson leading their prolific offense. Also in the mix are Oklahoma, Florida State and Ohio State. The season kicks off Aug. 26*when California and Hawaii meet in Australia.

[h=2]Bank of England tries to ease Brexit fallout[/h]The Bank of England*is expected to take steps Thursday to minimize the economic fallout from the Brexit vote back in June. The United Kingdom’s economy, hurt by uncertainty, has taken a hit since Britain voted to exit the European Union, with a closely watched July purchasing managers index suffering its fastest rate of decline since the 2009 financial crisis. The U.K. economy is seen sliding into recession. To ease the economic hit, the BoE is seen cutting a key interest rate a quarter-point to 0.25%, its first rate cut since early 2009, as well as boosting its asset purchase program. .
