1. Spelling Bee C-H-A-M-P-I-O-N crowned
Sound it out. Hear it in a sentence. Whatever it takes, spell the word correctly. Three days of national competition and we-don't-even-want-to-know-how-many hours of studying comes down to the finals Thursday (live on ESPN at 8 p.m. ET). It's been a tough schedule for the 285 spellers, as is evident by these sleepy faces. But their passion for spelling is admirable. Some of the spellers' one-liners have been glorious. Even in a world of auto correct, spelling says a lot about a person.
2. Football associations debate whether to go to FIFA Congress
European football associations will debate Thursday whether to boycott this week's FIFA Congress in Zurich following the arrests of soccer officials already gathered there. A 47-count federal indictment alleged two generations of soccer officials solicited millions in bribes and kickbacks in exchange for, among other things, their support for the sites of FIFA World Cup events, from qualifiers to the 2010 World Cup. The annual congress includes an election for FIFA president on Friday. Current President Sepp Blatter was strongly favored to win a fifth term.

3. Google I/O, the annual confab for developers, begins
What's new with Google? We're about to find out. Google's I/O conference for app developers opens Thursday. Over the years, the event has been a launching pad for new, shiny objects like Google Glass (2013) and Nexus Q (also 2013). Last year's event brought Android Auto, Android Wear and Android TV. Google is expected to show off a new version of Android, a new photos app, updates to Chromecast (the device to watch Internet TV), new Android smartwatches, and Android Auto, which just got into its first car, new models of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata.

4. Former New York governor George Pataki to announce bid for the White House
The crowded field of Republicans running for the party's presidential nomination is getting a little more crowded: Former New York governor George Pataki is expected to announce his candidacy on Thursday. Pataki, a moderate, explored running in each of the last two election cycles but decided against it. He will officially declare his intentions during an appearance in Exeter, N.H., the 1853 birthplace of the Republican Party. Pataki, New York's governor for 12 years, has been out of politics since December 2006. If you're keeping track, Pataki's announcement will make him the eighth Republican to announce a presidential bid.
5. Lindsay Lohan may get off probation for the first time in nearly 8 years
A prosecutor said Wednesday it appears Lindsay Lohan has completed more than 100 hours of community service, the final term of her sentence in a 2012 reckless driving case. Lohan was first placed on probation in August 2007 after she was charged with driving under the influence and drug charges after two arrests earlier that year. The Mean Girls star is under a deadline to complete more than 100 hours of community service by Thursday's court hearing. If the judge ends Lohan's case, it will be the first time in nearly eight years she has not been on probation in Los Angeles.
