1. Heat wave continues for a third day across U.S.
Searing temperatures will continue Tuesday from Oklahoma to New York City, according to the Weather Channel. As of mid-afternoon Monday,<span style="color: Red;">*</span>more than 53 million people were under a heat advisory, the Weather Channel reported. Temperatures reached the upper 90s with heat indexes into the 100s. Several city emergency officials advised people to seek out cool environments, wear loose clothing, limit power use to prevent outages and drink a lot of water. The unrelenting heat should ease up in a couple days.

2. John Kasich joins the GOP field, launches White House bid
Ohio Gov.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>John<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Kasich<span style="color: Red;">*</span>launches his 2016 presidential campaign Tuesday. He'll be the 16th Republican to enter the race and plans to announce his bid at his alma mater, Ohio State University. Kasich<span style="color: Red;">*</span>is a<span style="color: Red;">*</span>popular second-term governor, an 18-year veteran of Congress and a previous presidential candidate during the 1999 elections. Former president George W. Bush beat him for the GOP’s support, marking Kasich's only failed election.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>He's also a father of teenage twin girls and a good friend to U2's Bono. 3. More kids live in poverty<span style="color: Red;">*</span>than in 2008, report says
A higher percentage of children live in poverty now than did during the Great Recession in 2008, according to a<span style="color: Red;">*</span>new report released Tuesday by the Annie E. Casey Foundation. About 22% of children in the U.S. lived below the poverty line in 2013, compared with 18% in 2008, the foundation's 2015 Kids Count Data Book reported. "The fact that it’s happening is disturbing on lots of levels,” said Laura Speer, the associate director at the Casey Foundation. “Those kids often don’t have the access to the things they need to thrive.”
4. Jon Stewart hosts Obama one last time
President Obama<span style="color: Red;">*</span>will<span style="color: Red;">*</span>give a final interview Tuesday to Jon Stewart<span style="color: Red;">*</span>before Stewart leaves<span style="color: Red;">*</span>The Daily Show<span style="color: Red;">*</span>on Aug. 6.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Obama appeared six times on<span style="color: Red;">*</span>the show, two as president. He first appeared in 2005 as the<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Illinois senator and most recently during<span style="color: Red;">*</span>the 2012 campaign. Jet.com takes on retail giants Amazon and Walmart on Tuesday focusing on a<span style="color: Red;">*</span>new e-commerce model: the bigger your basket, the more you save.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Described as<span style="color: Red;">*</span>part Costco membership, part Amazon online mall, shoppers spend $50 a year for a membership and get the Web's lowest prices on 10 million-plus goods. With average savings of<span style="color: Red;">*</span>10% to<span style="color: Red;">*</span>15% on most items, Jet's niche is the cost-conscious, from Millennials on a budget to Boomers hunting coupon-less savings.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>"It's simply about undercutting everyone," says founder Marc Lore.
