1. Judge to rule on Deflategate
A judge could rule on the Deflategate case as early as Tuesday after final efforts to reach a settlement failed. Either NFL quarterback Tom Brady or NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will likely appeal the ruling, which could take months. The expectation is that Brady will receive a stay that tables the suspension until the appeals process is exhausted. New England plays the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL's regular season kickoff game Sept. 10.

2. Fall 2015 begins! (At least according to meteorologists)
Good news for those who aren't fans of the summer heat: Fall starts Tuesday, according to meteorologists. Astronomical fall is still more than three weeks away and people often say the "official" start of the seasons are the astronomical dates. But "Meteorological" fall is defined as the months of September, October and November in the Northern Hemisphere (it's spring in the Southern Hemisphere). That's because scientists require set time periods to calculate average temperatures. Unfortunately for those longing for crisp, cool fall weather, it'll still be hard to find on Tuesday.

3. Cheney blames U.S. failures on Obama in new book
Former vice president Dick Cheney blasts President Obama in his new book (out Tuesday) for pursuing policies he views as moving away from the bipartisan global leadership of past presidents. Cheney co-authors Exceptional: Why the World Needs a Powerful America with his daughter Liz. The pair criticizes Obama's Iran nuclear deal and compares it to the Munich agreement meant to appease Hitler. Congress faces a Sept. 17 deadline to pass a resolution of disapproval on Iran, which Obama has vowed to veto.

4. Funeral to be held for slain cameraman
A funeral will be held Tuesday in the hometown of Adam Ward, the cameraman who was slain on live TV last week. More than 1,000 mourners filled the Salem High School auditorium in Roanoke, Va., on Monday in a service for Ward, 27, who was gunned down by a former co-workeralong with WDBJ-TV reporter Alison Parker. At the request of Ward's family, many of those who attended wore the colors of Virginia Tech and Salem High. Ward played football for the high school's Spartans and majored in communications at Virginia Tech.
5. 'The Girl in the Spider's Web' revives Larsson crime series
Stieg Larsson's crime series and heroine Lisbeth Salander is resurrected Tuesday in The Girl in the Spider's Web, written by author David Lagercrantz. Larsson's best-selling crime novels — the Millennium series that includes The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo — published after his death in 2004. Lagercrantz is not the first writer to pick up a best-selling franchise. Anthony Horowitz's James Bond novel Trigger Mortis arrives on Sept. 8, and stand-in scribes are keeping a series by Robert Ludlum and Tom Clancy alive.
