About 40,000 Verizon workers are poised to begin striking Wednesday as they push for a new contract. The Communication Workers of America union, which has been without a contract since August, has set a strike deadline of 6 a.m. ET as it seeks a new deal limiting outsourcing while boosting pay and working conditions. Verizon, which has millions of phone and broadband subscribers on the East Coast, says it has trained non-union workers to handle repairs and other jobs.
