1. It's winter, all right
Many spots in the north-central and northeastern U.S. will see their coldest temperatures Wednesday since last winter. Wind-chill temperatures are forecast to dive well below zero at times in the Midwest and Northeast. The cold will spend multiple hours at "dangerously low and life-threatening levels," said AccuWeather meteorologist Alex Sosnowski.
2. Tail section of missing AirAsia plane found in Java Sea
The tail section of the AirAsia flight that crashed more than a week ago has been found in the Java Sea, Indonesia's search and rescue chief announced Wednesday, in the first confirmed sighting of wreckage from the missing jetliner that went down with 162 people on board. The discovery of the tail section is good news, because that is where the flight data and cockpit voice recorders, otherwise known as the black boxes, are located in the Airbus A320.
3. Obama kicks off pre-State of the Union tour
President Obama will trumpet the resurgence of the U.S. auto industry when he visits the Ford Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Mich. Obama's visit kicks off a three-day, three-city tour highlighting proposals he will feature in his State of the Union address later this month. In 2009, the Obama administration provided almost $80 billion that helped save General Motors and Chrysler and prevented a deeper recession. After his Michigan stop, Obama will discuss housing policy in Phoenix on Thursday and education in Knoxville, Tenn., on Friday.

4. Bill Cosby performs in Canada with allegations continuing
Despite a series of canceled shows throughout the United States, Bill Cosby will take his tour to Ontario, Canada, starting Wednesday, the Associated Press reports. Threats of protests and half-full venues have been reported, but his comedy tour will continue.
5. People's Choice Awards air on CBS
Shailene Woodley leads the nominations in the fan-dominated People's Choice Awards. The actress has nods for both The Fault in Our Stars and Divergent. The event is the only major awards show voted on entirely by the public for fan favorites in movies, music and television. Mom stars Anna Faris and Allison Janney will host.
