1. Jay Leno returns to TV with new CNBC series
Jay Leno’s back on the air,<span style="color: Red;">*</span>doing what he was born to do. No, not telling jokes – talking cars.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>The lifelong automobile aficionado and proud custodian of hundreds of vintage machines takes his popular online video series,<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Jay Leno’s Garage, to CNBC Wednesday (10 p.m. ET/PT).<span style="color: Red;">*</span>The first of eight<span style="color: Red;">*</span>hour-long episodes<span style="color: Red;">*</span>is dedicated to the American muscle car. Leno left<span style="color: Red;">*</span>The Tonight Show<span style="color: Red;">*</span>in February 2014.

2. Deadline looms for UAW-Fiat Chrysler contract
The<span style="color: Red;">*</span>United Auto Workers<span style="color: Red;">*</span>union has threatened to strike if it does not reach an agreement with Fiat Chrysler by the end of Wednesday. Union members last week overwhelmingly rejected a tentative agreement with the company.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>The union’s four-year contracts with all three automakers expired on Sept. 14, but workers have remained on the job under a contract extension. Fiat Chrysler is now turning profits and union members are seeking pay changes and other guarantees from the company.

3. Supreme Court to consider<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Kansas death penalty cases
The Supreme Court on Wednesday will hear the cases of Jonathan and Reginald Carr, two brothers who were sentenced to death for killing four people in Kansas. The men were sentenced to lethal injection in December 2000 for fatally shooting a woman and three men in a snow-covered field. Justices<span style="color: Red;">*</span>will also hear the case of Sidney Gleason, who was convicted of murdering a woman and her boyfriend in 2004. The<span style="color: Red;">*</span>death sentences for the Carr brothers and Gleason were overturned by the Kansas Supreme Court last year, and the state's attorney general appealed. The state<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Supreme Court has not upheld death sentences since capital punishment was reinstated in Kansas in 1994.

4. NHL begins its regular season with four games
The puck drops on the 2015-16 NHL season at 7 p.m. ET Wednesday when the Montreal Canadiens visit the Mike Babcock-coached Toronto Maple Leafs. However, the night's marquee game features the 2015 Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks and the New York Rangers. The Blackhawks will raise their Cup banner in front of their fans prior to the game. 5. NASA to launch rocket from Va. island
NASA's Wallops Flight Facility will launch a sounding rocket Wednesday night. The flight of the suborbital Black Brant IX<span style="color: Red;">*</span>is set to test new technology, such as the rocket's motor and three different materials that may be used in future aerospace in defense products. The aim is to make future space missions less risky and less expensive. The launch from Wallops Island, Va.,<span style="color: Red;">*</span>is expected between 7 and 9 p.m.
