A 21-year-old off-duty Israeli soldier killed in an knife*attack by two Palestinians on the West Bank was also an American citizen, the U.S. State Department*said Friday.
Tuvya*Weisman, a dual Israeli-U.S. citizen, died after he was*stabbed*at*a supermarket Thursday in the West Bank's Binyamin region, the Jerusalem Post reports
In a statement, the State Department condemned the killing in "the strongest possible terms."
"There is no justification for terrorism," the statement said. "This horrific incident again underscores the need for all sides to reject violence, and urgently take steps to restore calm, reduce tensions, and bring an immediate end to the violence."
The Post said one other*shopper was*injured when the two Palestinian teens went on the*stabbing spree*outside the West Bank Jewish settlement of Adam, north of Jerusalem.
Weisman was married and the father of a 4-month-old daughter, the newspaper said. The Post*used a different spelling for the victim's name,*referring to him as*Tuvia Yanai Weissman.
Israel says the latest round of*violence, which broke out in September, is fueled by a Palestinian campaign of lies and incitement, compounded on social media sites that glorify and encourage attacks. Palestinians say it stems from frustration at nearly five decades of Israeli rule and dwindling hopes for gaining independence.
At least eight separate attacks were reported over a 12-hour*period on Friday alone, Ha'aretz reports.
On Friday,*a Palestinian stabbed two Israeli police officers before he was shot and killed at a main entrance to Jerusalem’s Old City on Friday.
Later in the day, in the West Bank, a Palestinian rammed his car into Israeli soldiers during a “violent riot” before troops opened fire and killed him, the military said, according to the Associated Press.
