Around 20<span style="color: Red;">*</span>people were taken to<span style="color: Red;">*</span>hospitals<span style="color: Red;">*</span>early Monday after<span style="color: Red;">*</span>an<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Amtrak train derailed in southwest Kansas.
A statement from the company said<span style="color: Red;">*</span>the train was traveling from Los Angeles to Chicago<span style="color: Red;">*</span>when it derailed just after midnight about 20 miles west of Dodge City.
Kansas Highway Patrol communication specialist Patricia Munford said<span style="color: Red;">*</span>five train cars were on their side, the Associated Press reported.
"There were approximately 128 passengers and 14 crew members on board the train that had two locomotives and nine cars," Amtrak said in a<span style="color: Red;">*</span>statement.
The company said around 20 passengers were taken to hospitals in Garden City and Dodge City, and all the<span style="color: Red;">*</span>other passengers were taken to a recreation center in Cimarron, Kan, where the<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Red Cross and other relief agencies were assisting them.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>They<span style="color: Red;">*</span>will be given<span style="color: Red;">*</span>alternate<span style="color: Red;">*</span>transportation to their final destinations.
An investigation has begun into the cause of the incident.
