Massive earthquake devastates Nepal
The Nepal region was struck by a massive magnitude-7.8 earthquake Saturday, killing more than 2,500 people and devastating a large swath of the capital city's buildings and infrastructure. The Katmandu area of Nepal was then struck by a magnitude-6.7 aftershock Sunday, sending people in the city running for open ground. It was not clear what damage was sustained. Saturday's quake was the worst to hit the poor South Asian nation in over 80 years. Around 5,000 people were injured across the country and among the dead are 18 people who were struck by a quake-triggered avalanche on Mount Everest. The world reacted quickly to the disaster, offering money, relief materials, equipment, expertise and rescue teams to the country of 28 million people that relies heavily on tourism, principally trekking and Himalayan mountain climbing. Tourism in Nepal is still reeling from storms that killed nearly two dozen hikers late last year. The earthquake is another major setback for the industry.
Protests for Freddie Gray turn violent
A protest over the death of Freddie Gray disintegrated into chaos and violence on Baltimore streets Saturday night. The rally began as a peaceful protest of more than 1,000 people. Just before nightfall, groups of protesters marched from City Hall to the Camden Yards baseball stadium, where the Baltimore Orioles were playing the Boston Red Sox. Fans were told to briefly stay inside the stadium until the police were able to clear an intersection outside of the venue. A "splinter group" looted a convenience store and threw tables and chairs through storefront windows. One group smashed the window of a department store inside a downtown mall and, at one point, a protester tossed a flaming metal garbage can toward a line of police officers in riot gear as they tried to push back the crowd. Police Commissioner Anthony Batts said roughly 1,200 officers were deployed downtown and across the city to try and keep the peace. Six officers were injured and 34 people were arrested.
Bruce Jenner speaks: 'I am a woman'
Finally, America has heard it from Bruce Jenner's own mouth, in a long-teased, two-hour interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer Friday night: The former Olympic gold-medal decathlete-turned-Kardashian-clan-reality star is transitioning to a woman at age 65. "For all intents and purposes, I am a woman ... I was not genetically born that way and as of now I have all the male parts ... But I still identify as female. It's very hard for Bruce Jenner to say that. Why? Because I don't want to disappoint people," he told Sawyer. After months of rumors and leaks, predatory paparazzi and mocking tabloid headlines, Jenner acknowledged what mother Esther Jenner had confirmed and what fans have been wondering about for months. Jenner's confirmation that he is transgender makes him part of an embattled population that activists hope will benefit from a new high-profile member.

White House dinner mixes big names in media, politics
Two secretaries of State, actress Tea Leoni and former diplomat Madeleine Albright, arrived arm in arm as a wide mix of Hollywood and Washington players gathered for the national "Nerd Prom" on Saturday night. The White House Correspondents' Association dinner has become a celebrity magnet, this year drawing some big names from television, sports and movies to rub shoulders with members of Congress and to hear the president speak. The prize for the best bit at this year's dinner goes to President Obama. "The fact is, I feel more loose and relaxed than ever. Those Joe Biden shoulder massages, they're like magic," said the president, standing at the podium. Here are Obama's top 10 jokes.

Reports: NBC finds at least 10 Brian Williams embellishments
An NBC investigation into the reporting of suspended anchor Brian Williams has found at least 10 instances of exaggerations and embellishments, CNN and The Washington Post reported Saturday. CNN quoted an unnamed person with knowledge of the internal investigation, which is not yet complete. The Post also quoted an unnamed person familiar with details of the probe, saying it turned up at least 11 instances of embellishing. NBC had no comment. Williams was suspended from his position as NBC News' chief anchor in February after he retracted a story about coming under enemy fire in Iraq while on a reporting tour in 2003. Robert Barnett, a lawyer who has represented Williams, declined to comment on reports of multiple embellishments.

Ford recalls 389,585 cars for doors that fly open
Ford is recalling 389,585 late-model Ford Fiestas, Fusions and Lincoln MKZ sedans because of faulty latches that can allow the doors to fly open while the car is being driven. Ford says the problem was limited to certain models built at its plant in Mexico. It says a part called the pawl spring tab can break, which results in doors that can't be latched. The unlatching problem can occur while the car is being driven. There have been 207 complaints about faulty latches on Ford Fiesta subcompacts alone to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, including 65 in which the doors flew open as the car was driven, according to documents on the government regulator's website. NHTSA opened an investigation last September into the issue. In addition, the report says Ford acknowledges having received 451 reports on its own and 1,079 warranty claims related to the issue.
