CHESAPEAKE, Va. — One motorist who left the scene of an accident also left a significant piece of evidence — her entire bumper.
Allyson Conroy and her friend, Heather Dail, had planned to enjoy Memorial Day by the pool and ran to a convenience store for some food. Then someone in the car parked next to them started backing out, hitting the Dail's SUV and scraping it.
"I was wondering in my head how long it was going to take for her to realize that, 'A,' she didn't have a bumper, and then, 'B,' that her license plate with every bit of evidence was on it was right there at the scene," Conroy said.
Conroy was in the SUV with Dail's 2-year-old daughter, Brielle, who was sleeping.
"All of a sudden, the car just jolted," Conroy said. "I just yelled, 'You hit the car!' and she just looked at me and said, 'Sorry!' And I just yelled, 'You can't do that! You can't run!' I'm freaking out, and she ran anyways."

Customers ran toward Conroy who tried to memorize the license plate number on the rear of the car. That's when she looked down and realized the front license plate was on the ground, still attached to the car's front bumper.
In the midst of everything, Conroy called police. She turned over the bumper to them.
"They could not believe that that had happened and that their investigation just got a whole lot easier," she said.

Dail, who was in the store when the car hit her SUV, came out of the convenience store after Conroy called police.
"I couldn't even help but start laughing because there's a license plate just on the bumper behind my car," Dail said.
Although no one was injured, the incident left the SUV's rim, tire and quarter panel on the rear of the driver's side damaged. Dail estimated that repairs would cost about $3,000.

"They found the girl who the car was registered to, and she's just claiming that a friend took her car that morning, came back to the house and claims that she wrecked it, and just left," Dail said.
Dail and Conroy said a second woman was in the car as a passenger when it hit the SUV.
Even Brielle said, "That lady can't do that."
As of midday Tuesday, police had not filed charges.
