BRANDON, FLA. — Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office divers were on the scene of an underwater vehicle recovery Sunday evening at a small lake near the home of Apryl Foster, who has been missing for 10 days.
Tampa police confirmed that the submerged Chevrolet Aveo belonged to Foster, who was last seen in Ybor City, and that there was a single body recovered with the red car.
The Medical Examiner will officially identify the victim found in Foster's submerged car, but clothing of the victim matches what Foster was wearing shortly before she disappeared and the sheriff's office tweeted that the body was that of Foster.
The car was found just a half-mile away from Foster's home.
Maj. James Burton, commander of the Special Investigations Division, held a press conference Sunday to speak on what police found.
At the news conference Shawn Foster, Apryl's father, expressed his gratitude to everyone that shared her information while she was missing, "We want to thank the police department, the media, and everyone. We miss our girl ...."
Foster's mother, Peggy Beman, indicated the family would have a celebration of life for her later.
Struggling to hold back tears Beman said, "We just know she's with Jesus now. We are so thankful because, for me, I just couldn't imagine not having closure with something like this. We know she is looking at the eyes of Jesus."
Beman said that during the investigation, she felt like doing more, but "we found out that as we listened to (police) wisdom and their guidance, we were able to get out of their way."
