WASHINGTON —<span style="color: Red;">*</span>As the federal government slowly returned to work and<span style="color: Red;">*</span>children grudgingly headed back to school, temperatures were set to<span style="color: Red;">*</span>plummet overnight Wednesday with<span style="color: Red;">*</span>black ice and slick spots expected to snarl Thursday morning's rush hour.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>
But wait. There's more.
For the people whose cars were buried<span style="color: Red;">*</span>— and we mean buried<span style="color: Red;">*</span>— by two feet of snow during last weekend's Winter Storm Jonas/Snowzilla, a rude surprise might be lurking on their frozen windshields.
And no, they can't just, like the song says, "let it go."
The District of Columbia, which has been blasted by an arctic chill from<span style="color: Red;">*</span>residents for not plowing<span style="color: Red;">*</span>streets quickly enough, managed to hand out more than $1.5 million in tickets and tow charges.
New figures released by the District<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Wednesday night, showed that 5,479 cars along snow emergency routes got tickets. At a princely sum of $250 per.

And 690 cars were towed. Add $100 to the ticket cost, plus an impound storage fee of $20 per day.
That's going to make for some tough financial sledding for car owners trying to get back to normal.
"Don't park your car illegally, and that includes parking it kind of in the middle of the street next to the snow bank," D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser told residents<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Tuesday. She warned that cars parked more than 12 inches from a curb<span style="color: Red;">*</span>— not a snowbank<span style="color: Red;">*</span>— could be ticketed.
