Presidential candidate Donald Trump didn't back down from attacks during Fox's GOP debate. He spoke about his view on torture, an attack from Mitt Romney and even defended a particular piece of his anatomy. VPC
Seven months after their memorable encounter at the opening GOP debate in Cleveland, Donald Trump and Megyn Kelly faced off again at Thursday's Fox News debate in Detroit<span style="color: Red;">*</span>— and, well, it was a bit anti-climactic.
It took about a half-hour for the elephant in the room to be addressed, when Kelly posed a question to Trump. "Mr. Trump, hi," she said. "How are you doing?"
"Nice to be with you, Megyn."
"Great to have you hear," Kelly said.
"You're looking well," Trump responded, and soon after the exchanged turned to her question.
It wasn't always that pleasant.
The controversy stemmed from Kelly questioning Trump in the early stages of the Cleveland debate in August about past sexist comments, saying he'd used slurs like "fat pigs"<span style="color: Red;">*</span>"dogs" and "slobs" to describe women. Trump decried political correctness in his response, and added: "And honestly Megyn, if you don’t like it, I’m sorry. I’ve been very nice to you, although I could probably maybe not be, based on the way you have treated me."
It wasn't long after he opted for the "maybe not" option. The night after the debate, Trump said Kelly had<span style="color: Red;">*</span>"blood coming out of her wherever," sparking outrage, though Trump denied he was talking about Kelly's menstrual cycle.
The uproar sparked a long feud that extended to Fox News Chairman and CEO<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Roger Ailes. Over the ensuing months, Trump would not let up on Kelly, firing off missives at her on Twitter, calling her everything from "overrated" and a "lightweight."
The feud culminated in the week leading up to the Feb. 1 Iowa caucuses, when Trump announced he would boycott the Jan. 28 Fox News debate in Des Moines over the network's treatment of him and would instead hold a rival event to benefit veterans.
