The annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Rockefeller Center became a target for protesters Wednesday night after a grand jury cleared a white New York City police officer in the videotaped chokehold death of Eric Garner, a 43-year-old unarmed black man.

After the ruling, Mayor Bill de Blasio canceled his appearance at the event.
