BERLIN — With just days left in 2015, the International Organization for Migration said Tuesday that*more than 1 million migrants and refugees have crossed into Europe this year.
The Geneva-based group*said*the million mark was crossed Monday. It*marks*more than a four-fold increase from last year. The figures cover arrivals to Europe by land and sea.
Around 1 million migrants arrived in Germany in 2015, but that is a figure that includes*large numbers of people from Europe's Balkan countries such as Albania and Serbia. The IOM data cover entries to Europe from six European Union countries: Greece, Bulgaria, Italy, Spain, Malta and Cyprus.
