WASHINGTON — The aftermath of the decision by a St. Louis County grand jury not to indict white police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown will be the top issue on Sunday's political talk shows.
Protests have continued around the nation in the wake of Monday's announcement and some of them have turned violent, despite appeals by Brown's family, President Obama, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon and others to keep the gatherings peaceful.
The Brown's family attorney, Benjamin Crump, will talk about the situation on CBS' Face the Nation, while St. Louis Alderman Antonio French appears on ABC's This Week, and National Urban League President and CEO Marc Morial appears on Fox News Sunday.
In addition, CNN's State of the Union will provide the outlook for the busiest travel days of the year and Face the Nation will talk to two incoming Republican members of the U.S. Senate about their party's new majority.
Here's the Sunday show lineup:
• CBS' Face the Nation: Brown family attorney Benjamin Crump will discuss the family's reaction to the grand jury decision. James Peterson, director of Africana Studies at Lehigh University, and Ta-Nehisi Coates of the Atlantic, will discuss race relations in the United States. Sens.-elect Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Gary Peters of Michigan will talk about their aspirations as part of the new Republican majority in both chambers of Congress. Archbishop Blase Cupich of Chicago will talk about problems facing the Vatican and President Obama's executive order on immigration.
• ABC's This Week: St. Louis Alderman Antonio French, former New York City police commissioner Ray Kelly and University of Connecticut associate professor Jelani Cobb will discuss the fallout from the grand jury decision in St. Louis County.
• Fox News Sunday: Marc Morial, the president and CEO of the National Urban League, will be asked about discrimination in the criminal justice system. Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani will be asked about his position that the threat to black children is black-on-black crime and not white police officers.
• CNN's State of the Union: The travel outlook for Sunday and Monday, among the busiest travel days of the year, will be discussed by Michael Huerta, administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration. He also will be asked about recent near collisions of commercial aircraft and unmanned drones.
Efforts to avoid fatal shootings such as the Michael Brown case by building trust between law enforcement and local residents will be discussed by Detroit Police Chief James Craig, former New York City police commissioner Bernard Kerik and Malik Aziz, deputy police chief of Dallas and chairman of the National Black Police Association.
• NBC's Meet the Press: Not available at the time of publication.
