SPRING CITY, Pa. --*It had been 17 years since Paul Martin had danced. His daughter’s wedding was coming up and he knew the father-daughter dance meant a lot to Brittany. But he was worried.
It’s not that he was a bad dancer. Paul used to be a great dancer. He used to dance all the time with his kids. But now Paul is in a wheelchair. And he didn’t know if he could pull off a wheelchair dance in front of so many wedding guests. “I didn’t want to look silly,” Paul said. “I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to do it well.”
When Brittany Dejean was twelve years old, her father and brother were in a car accident. “My little brother was killed instantly and my dad broke his neck and became a quadriplegic,” said Brittany.
“One of the first things I thought of when I got injured...I remember laying in the hospital bed thinking, I’ll never dance with my daughter again,” remembers Paul. “I’ll never dance at her wedding and that really bothered me.”
So he knew what he had to do.
Paul pushed his fears aside and joined his daughter for a three hour dance boot camp with a teacher from Roll Call wheelchair dance.
Two weeks later was the big day, and the big dance.
