Four Marines were killed by a gunman who went on a rampage at two U.S. military centers in Tennessee on Thursday, Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke said. The gunman died at the scene.
"This is a nightmare for the city of the Chattanooga," said<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Berke.
The police officer was hit in the ankle and was in stable condition. Two others people were wounded in the assault.
"We’ve had a tragedy unfold in Chattanooga today," said Gov. Bill Haslam. "I know Tennesseans join me in being sickened and saddened."
Federal authorities said they were investigating the case as possible incident of domestic terrorism.
The gunman, identified by witnesses as a white male driving a silver Mustang convertible, first opened fire at an Armed Forces Career Center at a strip mall. Witnesses heard a "pop pop" of gunfire and saw a gunman speeding off in the sports car. Police later found numerous shell casings in the parking lot.
The shooter then drove to the U.S. Naval Reserve Center on Amnicola Highway, about six miles southeast, where he fired into the offices, killing the four Marines and injuring the police officer.

Authorities<span style="color: Red;">*</span>refused to disclose whether the gunman was killed by officers or shot himself.
Officials said the entire incident began around 10:45 a.m. and was over within 30 minutes.
Gale Mule, a witness, told CNN that a shooter drove up to Navy offices<span style="color: Red;">*</span>and began "firing into the building."<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Local media said the shooter was firing a high-powered rifle.
Within hours, Chattanooga police said the incident was no longer an active shooter situation.
Chattanooga State's campus nearby was locked down as a safety precaution, the school said on its website.
