The McDonald's Corporation will have a familiar face heading its communications shop: Former White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.
Gibbs, a long-time aide to President Obama, will be the burger giant's executive vice president and global chief communications officer.
"In his new role, Gibbs will lead McDonald's corporate relations group, which manages internal and external communications and government and public affairs," the company said in a statement. "He will lead McDonald's in communicating clear, coordinated messages to internal and external constituencies, enhancing the brand and supporting corporate strategies."
Gibbs left the White House spokesman's job in 2011, and served as an adviser to Obama's 2012 re-election campaign.
In addition to the Gibbs hire, McDonald's President and CEO Steve Easterbrook announced that Silvia Lagnado -- a former official with Bacardi Limited -- would become the new executive vice president and global chief marketing officer.
"Robert and Silvia are both highly-respected, talented leaders who will bring a wealth of experience and outside perspective to McDonald's as we build a more modern, progressive burger company," Easterbrook said. "Returning excitement to our business proposition and brand is foundational to our turnaround plan, and Robert and Silvia -- with their respective teams -- will play critical roles in bringing this strategy to life."
