The Obamas invited a group of about 50 Girl Scouts to camp out on their lawn to promote Michelle Obama's Let's Move Outdoors campaign, an offshoot of the Let's Move campaign that is designed to get young people to exercise more outdoors. VPC
Some 50 Girl Scouts got to make history Tuesday, camping out on the White House lawn -- for a little while anyway.
Amid heavy rains and thunder, organizers ended the South Lawn sleepover and moved the fourth graders and their chaperones into a conference room in the office building next to the White House.
Still, the girls got an evening visit from President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama, who sponsored the camp out as part of her Let's Move! initiative to reduce childhood obesity.
"What are you guys doing in my yard?" Obama joked to the campers. "When did you guys show up?"
Sitting on bales of hay, the president and his Girl Scout traded stories and sang songs.
