HALTOM CITY, Texas -- Police are searching for the grandmother of a toddler who they said waited six days to seek treatment for the child after he suffered serious burns that led to his death.
According to a statement released by the Haltom City*police department, Lyfe Flores, 2, suffered the burns on March 24 while under the care of his 43-year-old grandmother and legal guardian, Patricia Flores.
Flores told authorities the injuries occurred when she left the toddler alone in a bathroom while running water for the bathtub. However, she failed to seek treatment for the child's burns until March 30, when Lyfe became unresponsive, police said.
He was taken to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth and then transported to the burn unit at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas*unit due to the severity of his injuries.
The toddler was pronounced dead in the early morning hours on April 4.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner's office has not yet released the official cause of Lyfe's death.
Patricia Flores is charged with serious injury to a child with a $75,000 bond.
Authorities said they suspect she may be in the San Antonio area. She's described as 5 feet tall, 180 pounds, and has brown hair and hazel eyes.
