The Islamic State's top<span style="color: Red;">*</span>spokesman was wounded in an airstrike in Anbar province,<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Iraq's Joint Operations Command said in a statement Thursday.
"There are confirmed reports that the so-called terrorist Abu Muhammad al-Adnani,<span style="color: Red;">*</span>the spokesman of the Daesh terrorists,<span style="color: Red;">*</span>was wounded in an air strike," the statement said, according to Reuters and other media. Daesh is another term for Islamic State. Details of the injury were not released.
The U.S. State Department designated<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Al-Adnani as a<span style="color: Red;">*</span>global terrorist in August 2014, and a reward of up to $5 million is offered for information leading to his capture.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>The State Department describes him as "the official spokesman for and a senior leader of the Islamic State." The department says al-Adnani, a Syrian, issued<span style="color: Red;">*</span>the militant's declaration of the creation of an Islamic caliphate and was one of the<span style="color: Red;">*</span>first foreign fighters to oppose coalition forces in Iraq.
"Al-Adnani has repeatedly called for attacks against Westerners and has vowed 'defeat'<span style="color: Red;">*</span>for the United States," the department says.
