Latino activists in Dallas are planning a rush-hour "Dump the Trump" march Monday evening to counter an expected massive city rally for GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump, Texas media reported.
Local chapters of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and other area activist groups said they planned to bus protesters in from as far away as Houston to "march against hate," said Domingo Garcia, a Dallas lawyer and president of LULAC Council 102.
Trump is scheduled to speak at Dallas' American Airlines Center at Victory Park at 6 p.m. Monday. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that the rally's 20,000 free tickets were gone by Friday afternoon, with scalpers listing them for as much as $200.
Trump on Sunday tweeted, "Wow, massive crowd at American Airlines Arena in Dallas tomorrow. Will be a fantastic evening!"
The counter-march is expected to feature more than 1,500 people dressed in red, white and blue, Garcia said in a statement.
"We are not political piñatas," he said. "Trump is turning Americans on each other with his hateful and racist rhetoric. We will show him that Americans believe in inclusion and being a country of immigrants."
Trump has vowed, if elected, to deport all undocumented immigrants in under two years and to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
"That's a message that we believe needs to be countered," Garcia told The Dallas Morning News. "Especially here in Texas, which has had a bi-cultural, bilingual history since the beginning of its foundation."
