McKINNEY, Texas — Seven minutes of video can be very telling, but it doesn't tell everything. That is especially true in the case of a former McKinney police officer who was seen on a recording Friday outside a pool party taking down a 15-year-old girl and unholstering his weapon when approached by two young men.
On Wednesday, attorneys did the talking. First it was Jane Bishkin, who represents former Cpl. Eric Casebolt, whose actions in that clip raised a lot of questions about the use of force. Casebolt resigned from the force Tuesday.
"The video only depicts a small part of Eric's actions that day," she said.

A few hours later, lawyer Hannah Stroud, who represents Dajerria Becton, the teenager whose face Casebolt buried in the ground, spoke.
"Ultimately, the manner in which Ms. Becton was treated was inappropriate, excessive, and without cause," she said.
But, is there anything in this seven-minute video — captured by another teen — that warrants criminal charges against Casebolt?

"There has to be a victim," said Pete Schulte, who is both a lawyer and a former reserve officer for McKinney police. "There has to be a victim that wants to press charges and wants to cooperate with an investigation."
A police report has yet to be filed. If one was filed, an investigating agency would need to step in, and then the district attorney would have to determine what charges would be appropriate.
Becton's attorney said everything is on the table on their first move.

The attorney for a Texas police officer involved in a viral fight video at a pool party speaks in his defense. She says the officer was under a lot of stress that day due to two previous suicide calls. VPC

"We want to do fact-finding before we make any conclusions or jump to any conclusions," Stroud said.
Charges that have been discussed include excessive force, or even assault.
"We, along with our client, want to work with the city of McKinney and the police department to make sure a thorough investigation takes place," Stroud said.

"I cannot imagine that Ms. Becton wasn't feeling any sort of pain here," Schulte pointed out on the video as the officer put his two knees on the teenager's back.
Casebolt's attorney argued he was not in the right state of mind when responding to the pool party disturbance because of two calls he responded to earlier that day.
"And the nature of these two suicide calls took an emotional toll on Eric Casebolt," Bishkin said.
