[h=2]Google has some serious new bragging rights[/h]But you might not have known it since all the headlines were about Alphabet*(Google's new name, in case you forgot).*Alphabet*officially vaulted Apple in*trading Tuesday to become the most valuable company in the U.S.*Apple has been ranked the world's most valuable company for 4.5 years.*How Alphabet did it.*By rocking it. Its revenue is growing and*its*making shareholders happy.*Apple has struggled as demand for the iPhone has softened (rumor has it the company*will reveal*a smaller phone to jumpstart sales) and the tech giant has yet to come up with another blockbuster product.*What this means?*We're not really sure. Apple's going through a tough time, so it could end up on top again. But*Alphabet is now positioned to be the first company on a U.S. listed exchange to be worth $1 trillion.

[h=2]If the polls in Iowa were wrong, can a groundhog be right?[/h]If you're the kind of person who believes a groundhog, famous forecaster*Punxsutawney Phil*says spring is coming early this year. Yay?*Meanwhile, we predict the fur will continue to fly*as the race to the White House gets more intense in the shadow of*Monday night's Iowa caucuses. Let's recap: In the GOP race,*Ted Cruz triumphed over Donald Trump; Marco Rubio was pretty proud of his third-place finish. As for the Dems, Hillary Clinton got the narrowest of wins over Bernie Sanders. (Out of the race: Martin O'Malley on the Dem side, and Mike Huckabee on the GOP.) The takeaway: The polls were wrong, and it was a huge night for the anti-establishment candidates.*Up next:*New Hampshire. It's also super important, and none of the candidates is taking the race for granite. (Sorry, we couldn't resist.) But hey, at least Ben Carson will have fresh clothes?

[h=2]Kids in 11 N.J. cities have higher lead levels than Flint[/h]Now that's just horrible. Young children in 11 cities and two counties in New Jersey have*higher levels of lead in their blood*than children in*Flint, Mich., where a water contamination crisis has grabbed national attention, the Asbury Park Press reports.**(New Jersey’s exposure is linked to lead paint in homes, not water supplies.)*Lawmakers and advocacy groups in New Jersey have a plan to do something about it. 1)*Get the attention of a public startled by Flint.*2)*Try again to add $10 million to the budget.*3)*Move inspections to the local level.*4)*Promote the*#LeadFreeKidsNJ public advocacy campaign. Meanwhile, in Flint, the FBI has joined the investigation into the drinking water.
[h=2]The CDC doesn't want women to drink alcohol*unless they're using birth control. We know how that sounds.[/h]The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said women of childbearing age should avoid alcohol unless they're using contraception. Um, OK? The CDC wants to reduce the number of babies born with fetal alcohol syndrome. What they're saying.*Fetal alcohol syndrome is serious, and being on birth control is wise if you're planning on drinking, since you might not know you're pregnant and alcohol can permanently harm a developing baby. What some people heard. Women are incapable of controlling their lives and bodies. Wanda Filer, president of the American Academy of Family Physicians: "Some women will take this advice, and some will not."
[h=2]#longread: This Black History Month, let's talk about gentrification[/h]A more fervent wave of gentrification than in years past is changing urban areas across the United States, spurring some community advocates to organize to protect black history in their corners of the world,*writes USA TODAY's Melanie Eversley.*In New York City's*gentrifying*Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, once known as “Do or die Bed-Stuy,” three remaining houses from a black community from the 1800s known as*Weeksville*are protected by landmark status. They now operate as a*museum. In Chicago’s*Bronzeville, residents are*repurposing historic buildings and*pushing to play a role in the future of their neighborhood, particularly after an announcement last year that*President Obama’s library might locate*nearby.
