A Michigan rock hunter pulled a 93-pound fossilized coral stone out of Lake Michigan on Tuesday.
When Tim O'Brien of Copemish, Mich., spotted the massive Petoskey stone a week ago, it was buried in the sand several feet out in Lake Michigan, The Grand Rapids Press reported.
O'Brien came back to retrieve the stone on three separate occasions before he was successful in digging it out of the stand and lugging it off the beach.
The Petoskey stone is Michigan's state stone. The stone is a fossilized tan-gray arrangement of colony coral that dates back about 350 million years. It has a shiny, hexagonal pattern when polished, and is often sold in gift shops.
A small Petoskey stone was photographed on President Obama's desk in 2013.
O'Brien told the Press he plans on putting the stone in his yard as a "conversation piece."
"I've seen bigger ones, but this is about as big as you can carry," O'Brien told the publication.
