The search for two killers who broke out of a New York prison more than two weeks ago focused on two locations more than 300 miles apart on Sunday.
Police shifted their attention to an area roughly 20 miles west of the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, N.Y., after hunting in an area along the Pennsylvania border earlier in the day. Convicted murderers David Sweat and Richard Matt escaped from the Clinton facility.
The manhunt is now focused on Owl Head in Franklin County, where a command post has been established and police have arrived with ATVs, CNN reports.
A camp in the Owl Head area was broken into and a person was seen fleeing from the camp, WPTZ in Burlington reports.
The Vermont State police said the New York State Police requested the assistance of Vermont's Tactical Support Unit, but it is unclear if the SWAT team was deployed.
The search had been focused near Friendship, N.Y., more than 350 miles from Dannemora, earlier Sunday after a local resident told authorities she spotted two men matching the description of Sweat and Matt walking along railroad tracks.
"We will continue to search this area until all leads have been exhausted," Maj. Michael Cerretto of the New York State Police said Sunday afternoon. "As we have in other areas of the state, we will search under every rock, behind every tree and structure, until we are confident that that area is secure."
The two men escaped from the maximum-security prison, near the Canadian border, on June 6. Police said the two used power tools to drill through a wall. They worked their way to a tunnel that led to a manhole about a block from the prison.
Sweat was serving life without parole after his conviction for the murder of Broome County Sheriff Deputy Kevin Tarsia. Matt was serving 25 years to life after his conviction of murder, kidnapping and robbery. He kidnapped, tortured and killed his former boss, and then dismembered his body.
New York state is offering a reward of $50,000 for information that leads to the capture of either suspect ($100,000 for both), police said. The U.S. Marshals Service has placed Sweat and Matt on its 15 Most Wanted Fugitives List and is offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to the capture of either suspect, police said.
Prison worker Joyce Mitchell remains in custody on charges she helped Sweat and Matt escape by providing them hacksaw blades, chisels and other tools. She has pleaded not guilty.

Freshwater, 79, of Akron, Ohio, was arrested by U.S. Marshals on May 4, 2015, in Melbourne, Fla. He was convicted of voluntary manslaughter for killing a pedestrian with his car in 1957. Freshwater initially received a suspended sentence but was imprisoned in 1959 for a parole violation. He fled a prison farm in northwest Ohio later that year. Authorities eventually traced Freshwater to his Fla. home.*(Photo: AP)![]()
