Fox News Channel’s Megyn Kelly on Monday defended the questions she asked as moderator of last week’s Republican presidential candidate debate, following*ongoing attacks from Donald Trump:
I certainly will not apologize for doing good journalism, so I’ll continue doing my job without fear or favor.Kelly’s on-air statement during her show, The Kelly File, comes after a weekend of uproar over comments made by Trump during a CNN interview, when he said Kelly had “blood coming out of her wherever” to explain her tough questioning during the debate.*The backlash was quick, including reprimanding from a fellow presidential candidate, being uninvited to the RedState gathering and his top aide quitting (though Trump says that he fired the adviser). Trump has refused to apologize and said he meant blood was coming out of her nose.
Kelly did note that she was not responding specifically to Trump’s weekend comments.
She*kicked off her show by jokingly asking if any news had happened over the weekend, since she had been at the beach with her family.
She then turned serious. Her full statement is below:
You may have heard that there was a dust-up involving yours truly and presidential contender Donald Trump. Mr. Trump was upset about a question I asked him at the debate last week about his electability and specifically comments he has made in the past about women. A few words on that. Apparently, Mr. Trump thought that the question I asked was unfair and felt I was attacking him. I felt he was asked a tough but fair question. We agree to disagree. Mr. Trump did interviews over the weekend that attacked me personally. I’ve decided not to respond. Mr. Trump is an interesting man who has captured the attention of the electorate. That’s why he is leading in the polls. Trump, who is the front runner, will not apologize. And I certainly will not apologize for doing good journalism, so I’ll continue doing my job without fear or favor. And Mr. Trump, I expect, will continue with what has been a successful campaign thus far. This is a tough business, and it’s time now to move forward.2016, Donald Trump, Megyn Kelly, 2016, Talkers*
