A Massachusetts woman shared photos last week of her son playing in the same Florida lagoon where an alligator snatched 2-year-old Lane Graves less than an hour later.
Jennifer Venditti wrote that she shared photos on Facebook of her child wading into the water at the Seven Seas Lagoon at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in response to those who have criticized Lane’s parents for allowing him to play in the lagoon.
“I've already seen posts criticizing the parents,” Venditti said in the June 15 post. “I can assure you alligators were not on my mind at all when Channing was in the water.”
Venditti noted that she snapped the pictures of her son between 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., in the same spot where Lane was pulled from the shoreline shortly after 9 p.m..
“It's a tiny beach, surrounded by pools, water slides, a restaurant, and a fire pit,” she wrote. “I can't conceive that an alligator would be in such a busy, small space.”

Disney's liability, prior knowledge questioned

Authorities recovered Lane’s body last Wednesday, nearly 17 hours after the reptile snatched the boy as he waded in the water.
His father, who quickly rushed to the boy's aid, could not fend off the alligator and received minor injuries to his hand.
The boy's mother also rushed into the water, but when the frantic couple were unable to save their son, they alerted a nearby lifeguard who called 911.
Venditti encouraged people to pray for the family and those that witnessed the event. She noted that she’s haunted knowing that she and her son were in the same situation Lane’s family was, only minutes earlier.
“I can't help but wonder if we played with him, did I talk to his Mom? How does one go home without your baby in tow,” she said.
