Gingrich says the U.S. should test Muslims to see if they support Sharia law.
Video provided by Newsy Newslook
Newt Gingrich believes his comments about testing every U.S. Muslim to see if they believe in Sharia law were distorted.
The former House speaker took to Facebook Friday<span style="color: Red;">*</span>for a lengthy video on his thoughts about how to deal with suspected terrorists a day after he received criticism for<span style="color: Red;">*</span>his remarks on<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Fox News’ Hannity<span style="color: Red;">*</span>after a massacre in Nice, France, that killed at least 84 people and injured dozens more.
"Let me be as blunt and as direct as I can be:<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Western civilization is in a war," Gingrich said Thursday night. "We should frankly test every person here who is of a Muslim background, and if they believe in Sharia, they should be deported. Sharia is incompatible with Western civilization. Modern Muslims who have given up Sharia, glad to have them as citizens. Perfectly happy to have them next door."
After scrutiny of his comments, Gingrich hit back,<span style="color: Red;">*</span>calling the stories “amazing distortions” on Twitter.
On Facebook Live,<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Gingrich said he wanted to clarify his statements<span style="color: Red;">*</span>because "the news media went into a hysteria overnight in trying to grossly exaggerate what I was saying."
"This is not about targeting a particular religion … this is about looking for certain characteristics” that involve killing people, he said.
Here are more comments from Gingrich on Twitter about the uproar:
Amazing distortions of my interview on Hannity last night.i will do a lengthy facebook live later this morning on the issue of sharia

We clearly need three patterns dealing with Islamist terrorism:for people seeking to get into America, those with green cards, for citizens

On Thursday while speaking about the<span style="color: Red;">*</span>deadly terror attack in southern France the president made an apparent reference to Gingrich (though he didn't name him specifically.)
"In the wake of last night’s attacks, we’ve heard more suggestions that all Muslims in America be targeted, tested for their beliefs; some deported or jailed," Obama grimaced.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>"And the very suggestion is repugnant and an affront to everything that we stand for as Americans."
"We cannot give in to fear, or turn on each other, or sacrifice our way of life.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>We cannot let ourselves be divided by religion — because that’s exactly what the terrorists want.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>We should never do their work for them,"<span style="color: Red;">*</span>he said.
Gingrich responded with a scalding attack of his own.
Obama's attack on me would be more impressive if he had ANY plan to defeat Islamic supremacist.8 years of failure disqualify him as a critic
