A North Dakota man who reportedly traveled to Washington to kidnap one of the Obama family’s dogs was released from custody Friday under “high intensity supervision,” court records show.
Scott Stockert of Dickinson, N.D., was arrested on weapons charges Wednesday at a D.C. hotel after Secret Service agents found a rifle, shotgun, machete and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in his truck.
He told agents that he was Jesus Christ and the son of President John F. Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe and that he had traveled to Washington to announce a run for the presidency.
The agents had received information from a field office in Minnesota that Stockert was headed to Washington to abduct a “pet” owned by the Obamas. The first family has two Portuguese water dogs, Bo and Sunny. It’s unclear which may have been targeted or why.

He is barred from carrying any weapons or going near the White House or Capitol as a condition of his release.
The Obama dogs have been popular attractions at the White House, where they have greeted visitors and been featured on Christmas Cards and in holiday decorations. The White House dubbed Bo the “First Dog of the United States” when the family received him in 2009.
He was a gift from the late senator Ted Kennedy shortly after President Obama took office. The president said he had made a campaign promise to his daughters that they could get a dog if he was elected. The family added Sunny in 2013.
