Ohio officer fired over Facebook post on suicide

An Ohio police department fired an officer after he<span style="color: Red;">*</span>called<span style="color: Red;">*</span>the suicide of an<span style="color: Red;">*</span>activist for Black Lives Matter<span style="color: Red;">*</span>a “happy ending" in a Facebook<span style="color: Red;">*</span>post.

The comment at issue involved MarShawn McCarrel II, 23, who shot and killed himself<span style="color: Red;">*</span>on the Ohio statehouse steps on Feb. 8.<span style="color: Red;">*</span>McCarrel had coordinated protests for the group Black Lives Matter after the 2014 police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo.Former Fairborn Police Department officer Lee Cyr was terminated after an internal affairs investigation into the social media<span style="color: Red;">*</span>posting, Police Chief Terry Barlow said<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Monday.
Among the condolences on his Facebook page for the Cincinnati branch of Black Lives Matter, an off-duty<span style="color: Red;">*</span>Cyr wrote: “Love a happy ending,” according to the Dayton Daily News.
“This action is in violation of the department’s social media policy and does not conform to the professional standards and core values established by the organization,” Barlow said.
