[h=2]Next year's Academy Awards may be just as pale and male as this year[/h]We’re sad to report that next year's Academy Awards looks to be a reprise of*#OscarsSoWhite. The proof is in the pudding, er, numbers:*USA TODAY surveyed 14 Hollywood studios to determine the diversity of their announced 2016 slates, breaking down the data on 184 movies to be released*this year. Each*studio got a letter grade. Hint: No A's were given. USA TODAY's analysis*shows a distinct lack of minority and female faces in films being*released between January and December.*Oy.*Here's what the studios say. Here's why the*prospects for diversity are so bleak. And here are some*notable bright spots*in 2016's diversity dearth.

The lack of diversity at the Oscars in 2016 could be repeated in 2017 due to few minorities landing major roles in films set to be released this year. USA TODAY

[h=2]The court didn't help Kesha, but maybe $5 and a re-post will[/h]If a judge won't let singer Kesha out of her Sony contract with producer Dr. Luke, her fans hope money will.*A fan set up a GoFundMe campaign*to raise $2 million to buy Kesha Rose Sebert*out of her contract.*It takes the widely trending*#FreeKesha*one step further.*A New York*judge last week ruled against releasing*Kesha*from her contract, after she sued Dr. Luke (real name: Lukasz Gottwald) in 2014 for ongoing abuse, including drugging and raping her a decade ago. Separately,*Taylor Swift donated $250,000*to Kesha "to help with any of her financial needs during this trying time," Swift's spokesperson Tree Paine said.

[h=2]So long, Jeb[/h]Did you watch*Jeb Bush announcing the suspension of his campaign over the weekend? It's really sad. We feel bad for the guy. This man is a Bush. This man had donors and endorsements. It was all for naught.*We know why, of course. To put it mildly, this is "not the year for an establishment candidate,"*notes George H.W. Bush biographer Timothy Naftali. Instead, it’s the year for a man who*fits perfectly into Game of Thrones. Onward to Nevada.
[h=2]The future is now[/h]There's a lot happening at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, from the unveiling of the Samsung Galary S7*to all the talk about virtual reality. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is especially excited for the latter, saying it has the potential to be "the most social platform." But it's a photo of Zuckerberg's surprise cameo that has people talking. There's Mark, walking by a bunch of people with VR headsets on. It's fascinating and creepy all at once. We've seen*The Matrix. Think of a funny caption for the photo? Tweet it to us at #TheShortList.
