PHOENIX — The search for a missing Arizona couple ended early Thursday morning when investigators said they found two bodies that they believe to be that of Michael and Tina Careccia after the search of property near the couple's home.
A male suspect was in custody related to the disappearance, and deputies were planning to release more information later Thursday, according to a Pinal County Sheriff's spokesman.
"Our search of the property on West Papago Road has led to the recovery of two bodies, a man and a woman, that we believe to be Mike and Tina Careccia," according to a sheriff's statement. "As well, we have one male suspect in custody who lives at the property being searched. Family members of the Careccias have just been notified of the recovery and arrest. Our investigators and staff continue to carefully gather evidence that we believe will prove critical to our investigation and result in a stronger criminal case."
The property where deputies were searching Wednesday afternoon was not far from where the couple's Honda was discovered after their disappearance.

Michael and Tina Careccia, of Maricopa, Ariz., were reported missing June 22 and their case has generated great interest and speculation about their whereabouts, some of which law enforcement sought to quell this week.
Sheriff Paul Babeu and a private investigator hired by family members have said they believed foul play was likely in the couple's disappearance.
Michael's 17-year-old son Luke called 911 at about 7:15 p.m. June 22 to report his dad and stepmother missing. Officials say the couple left the house in their 2008 Honda Accord at about 5 a.m. They were expected at Tina's workplace in the East Valley but never showed.

"I'm worried about him," Luke calmly said in the 911 call when he reported his father and stepmother missing, adding, "Their phones are off."
The couple's Honda was later found less than a mile from their home, covered in dirt and with no trace of the Careccias.
Geoff Dugan, Michael's brother-in-law, shed some doubt on the official timeline Wednesday. He said the last time anyone had seen the couple was the night before the car was found.
The area is rural and the landscape is dotted with derelict cars and buildings, which, according to private investigator Stan Williams, is a "great place to hide stuff."
Michael, 44, is a United Airlines pilot on medical leave and Tina, 42, is an accountant. They married about a year ago and each brought children from previous relationships to the family: Michael's two sons and Tina's two sons and a daughter.
