WASHINGTON (WUSA9) — An anonymous death threat has been made against students at Howard University, according to a statement issued by the university on Thursday.
The school released the following statement Thursday afternoon:
We are aware of the threat made against the University and its students and are working with campus, local, and federal law enforcement on this serious matter. This is an ongoing investigation. However, in an abundance of caution, the University has increased security on campus and at area metro stations. We strongly encourage the campus community and our neighbors to stay vigilant and to report any suspicious activity. If you see something, say something and contact Howard University Department of Public Safety at 202-806-1100 or the District of Columbia Metro Police Department at 202-727-9099.According to tweets from a Howard University student, the individual, who made references to the*University of Missouri, threatened to kill any black person on campus after 10.

This threat comes only days after similar threats were made on social media directed at University of Missouri students. Some of the threats suggested that the KKK may have been on campus and threatened people of color.
Howard University has been taking to social media this past week and supporting the Mizzou students. A spokesperson for Howard University told WUSA9 that students would not be penalized if they decided*not to go to class Thursday.
An estimated 400 students gathered on “the yard” in the center of the Howard campus to rally against the threats. The rally lasted for about an hour and a half.
“We’re not afraid of it,” said senior psychology major Chris Reynolds.
“We’re not going to shut up,” added sophomore Quenice Coaxum. “Things like this are not acceptable.”
A smaller group of students gathered later in the evening for “vigilance” according to one participant.
The original threat has not been followed up by any additional threats, according to a statement released by the University Thursday night.
The FBI and Metropolitan Police are investigating.
