A potent storm is forecast to deliver a wild mix of both wintry and severe weather to the central U.S. later Tuesday and throughout Veterans Day on Wednesday.
"Blizzard conditions are possible in parts of Colorado, Nebraska and Kansas, making travel treacherous by Tuesday night," the National Weather Service warned.
Snow has already fallen across portions of the western U.S.: Up to 10 inches of snow was measured in parts of the Reno, Nev., metro area as of late Monday night, the Weather Channel reported.
To the east and south of the wintry weather, a severe weather outbreak is forecast for Wednesday.
"All the ingredients are coming together for a potent round of severe weather in the Plains and Mississippi Valley," said AccuWeather meteorologist Becky Elliott.
Cities in the threat zone include Chicago, Des Moines, St. Louis, Kansas City, Little Rock, Memphis and Houston, AccuWeather said.
High winds will also roar from the central Rockies to the Great Lakes on Wednesday and Thursday, with wind gusts as high as 60 mph in some areas.
Tree damage, sporadic power outages and travel delays will result from the winds, which could also hit*Chicago on Wednesday evening, according to AccuWeather. High winds could reach Detroit by Thursday.
Severe weather and tornado outbreaks are not unusual in November, according to the Weather Channel. In fact, November is a climatological "second season" of severe weather,*after the usual primary severe season of spring.
This is true both in the Deep South and, occasionally, in parts of the Midwest.
