According to the Adams County, Idaho sheriff's office, the bull was hurt in a wreck and was acting aggressively toward emergency responders. When deputies went to put the bull down, its owner arrived with a rifle and an altercation ensued. VPC

An Idaho cattle rancher was killed during an altercation with police over the fate of an injured bull on Sunday.
The incident began when a Subaru station wagon crashed into a bull outside of Council, Idaho, on Sunday night. Emergency responders and Adams County deputies were called to the scene and worked to extricate the two people inside of the Subaru.
Adams County Sheriff Ryan Zollman said the bull, which was injured in the collision, started charging at emergency responders and other vehicles.
"The bull was very agitated and was aggressive to emergency services, as well as the other cars coming up and down the highway," he said.
Deputies were getting ready to put the animal down when the bull's owner, 62-year-old Jack Yantis, arrived on the scene with a rifle.
Zollman said there was an altercation and Yantis and both deputies fired their weapons.
Authorities are interviewing witnesses and checking for any video or audio recordings that were captured during the incident, according to Zollman.
Idaho State Police are handling the investigation.
"It's just a sad deal for everybody involved, for the whole community," Zollman said.
The names of the two Adams County deputies involved in the shooting have not been released.
