Rather, Couric, more tweet sadness at Bob Simon's death

As news spread quickly about the sudden death of veteran CBS News correspondent Bob Simon in a car crash in New York City Wednesday night, emotional reaction poured from social media. Journalists and celebrities remembered the 73-year-old award-winning journalist as a great writer and a good man.
"Condolences to the family of my friend and longtime colleague, CBS News Correspondent Bob Simon," tweeted Dan Rather, former anchor of CBS Evening News.

Anderson Cooper, fellow correspondent at 60 Minutes, tweeted, "Bob Simon was the best writer, in my opinion, working in broadcast news. I have admired him from the time I was a kid watching CBS News."
"Heartbreaking news about Bob Simon of 60 Minutes, a brilliant writer and reporter and someone I admired deeply," tweeted Katie Couric, Yahoo Global News Anchor and former CBS anchor.
Documentary maker Michael Moore tweeted, "Bob Simon asked me to be on 60 Minutes in 2003. A true professional and a great human being. A friend to the voiceless everywhere. RIP."

Al Roker, weather anchor on NBC's Today, tweeted an announcement of Simon's death and, simply, "What a loss."
Frank Rich remembered Simon's courage.
"What a loss for all of us who admired his work," Greta Van Susteren wrote.

The New York Times' David Carr called Simon's a television storyteller "without peer."
