New York real estate heir Robert Durst will return to California to face a murder charge, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney's office.
Durst is charged in the killing of<span style="color: Red;">*</span>his writer friend, Susan Berman. The joint agreement would require Durst to be extradited from Louisiana, where he is now jailed on a federal gun charge, by Aug. 18, according to a statement from the district attorney's office.
Durst's Houston-based lawyer, Dick DeGuerin, issued a statement that said, "The agreement we reached with the prosecutors in Los Angeles is part of Bob Durst's efforts to go to trial in the Susan Berman murder case as soon as the Louisiana charges are resolved. Bob Durst does not know who killed Susan Berman and does not know who did. He wants to prove his innocence as soon as he gets that chance."
An HBO series titled "The Jinx" highlighted Durst, 72, and the 1982 disappearance of his wife, Kathy, along with Berman's death in 2000. Berman was found dead in her home in the Benedict Canyon area of Los Angeles.

Durst vanished from his home in Houston and was arrested in New Orleans on March 14.
The district attorneys office worked out the agreement with DeGuerin along with the U.S. attorneys for the eastern district of Louisiana and for Orleans Parish, the Southern District of Texas and the Southern District of New York.
