A Texas dentist is recovering after being attacked by a bull shark while spearfishing in the Bahamas over the weekend.
Steven T. Cutbirth, of Waco, Texas, shared details and gruesome images of the attack on his Facebook page.
In a Facebook post, Cutbirth said*he had just speared a fish and was bringing his catch to the surface when something crashed into him.
“It was as if a football linebacker had crashed into the right side of my head,” he said.
Cutbirth said he was “stunned” and had no idea what hit him until he looked to his right.
“There was the white bottom side of the shark's mouth along with a wide open mouth and plenty of teeth,” he said.
He said he instinctively dropped the fish and the spear and hit the shark in the head with his hand.
“That knocked it back a bit, only to have it now in full frenzy coming back at me, banging into my side and right leg, searching for the speared fish,” *he said.

The 62-year-old said he was able to get out of the water and into his guide’s fishing boat, without being bitten again.
He was bitten on his forehead, cheek*and lip, as well as on his right knee and thigh.
Because there were no physicians on the small island, a nurse helped stitch the wounds.
Cutbirth said he and his family are planning on staying in the Bahamas until Friday, though he "unfortunately" can't get in the ocean for a few weeks.
“All in all, no complaints -- a very lucky person,” he said in the Facebook post. “All men should have a few well-placed scars on their face, don’t you think?”
