Washington*gives Pope Francis a big hug
Pope Francis*waved to a cheering crowd, embraced children and basked in the pageantry of a city that essentially shut down to welcome him Wednesday. He talked to President Obama (topic: climate change). He zipped around among the masses in a glass-enclosed Jeep. He led Mass.*Pope fever is officially sweeping America.*If you only read one story about the pope today, we recommend this one. A Phoenix family says that Francis held their baby during a visit to the Vatican last year, and he literally healed the holes her tiny heart. (Pass the tissues, please. We have something in our eye.) The*pope isn't done yet: His schedule is still packed. Coming up Thursday: A historic address to Congress.

'Always go to other people’s funerals. Otherwise, they won’t come to yours.'
Call them Yogi-isms or Berra-isms.*Either way, these famous and*funny quotes made Yogi Berra not just the greatest catcher to ever play the game, but a linguistical legend. Berra transcended baseball, so when he died Tuesday night at the age of 90 it wasn't just the sports world that mourned. We all did. The Yankees great*showed his character on the field and off: He*befriended*minority players when Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in 1947. Before that, he*volunteered*for the Navy and fought*in the Battle of Normandy. He's a baseball Hall of Famer who also received a Purple Heart and a Presidential Medal of Freedom.*He was a*national treasure, smiling in pinstripes.

Take a break from actual politics to enjoy these fascinating and creepy manipulated photos of the contenders
By 2025, Sen. Marco Rubio would look like a heavy-set man with graying hair but still sporting a boyish grin.*Jeb Bush would emerge looking younger than brother*George, but a bit grayer than his father did.*That’s the way an artist is depicting the would-be presidents after two terms in the most stressful job on the planet.*“It’s art based on scientific principles,” said Emanuel Craciunescu of photo manipulation firm, Phojoe.*The*company used age-progression technology on photos of 11 GOP presidential candidates, the two leading Democratic candidates and potential candidate Vice President Biden.*Check out the images here. VW CEO resigns as stink over emissions deception spreads
We saw this coming even through the cloud of scandal. Volkswagen's*CEO is out.*“I am shocked by the events of the past few days," Martin Winterkorn said. (You can read his full statement*here.)*The short version of what led to his resignation:*The German automaker installed softwared that would cheat*emissions tests,*which is bad news all the way around.*Buyers of Volkswagen diesels are among the most environmentally conscious motorists in the U.S., and they feel deceived. (They were.) And then there are*the matters of a criminal probe, lawsuits and recalls, all of which*the next CEO will have to deal with. It's a*crisis so deep that it could take years to unwind.*And it leaves us wondering, do other carmakers cheat?*Probably not.
