Meet the new victim in the 'Rolling Stone' rape story: Phi Kappa Psi
Rolling Stone's controversial rape story has been discredited, but the fraternity at the center of it just dropped the other shoe: Phi Kappa Psi is pursuing legal action against the magazine. Yesterday, Rolling Stone officially retracted A Rape on Campus, an article that graphically detailed an alleged gang rape at Phi Kappa Psi's University of Virginia frat house. (Last month, police in Charlottesville said they weren't able to verify "Jackie's" story, but made clear that doesn't mean something terrible didn't happen.) The retraction came as the Columbia Journalism Review released its report blasting the magazine for failures in reporting and editing. The article caused a stir when it ran in December, and afterward, when the writer's reporting came into question. Last night, Rolling Stone Managing Editor Will Dana issued an apology on the website and the author, Sabrina Rubin Erdely, issued a separate apology. No one has been fired over the story, and Erdely will continue to write for the magazine. Read what USA TODAY's Rem Rieder says we can learn from the debacle.

CEOs remind us how little we actually make
Get ready to feel super deflated about your last pay raise. A new USA TODAY analysis found 13 CEOs of a group of well-known restaurants and retailers haul in an average $5,859 an hour. Putting that another way: It would take an employee making $10 an hour more than two months working every day to earn as much as the average CEO in these industries makes in a single hour. OK, we know, no one actually expects a line cook or a retail clerk to earn as much as the CEO (who likely puts in more than 40 hours a week), but with rising hourly pay at companies like Walmart and McDonald's — both announced this year — there's definitely a greater focus on pay disparity. The biggest CEO payout — by far — goes to the co-CEOs of Chipotle Mexican Grill. Montgomery Moran and Steve Ells pulled down more then $13,000 an hour apiece. Compare that with the average $9.15 an hour paid to Chipotle crewmembers, according to Glassdoor.com. It would be very difficult for investors to complain too much, though, since shares of Chipotle gained 29% in 2014.
McDonald's said on Wednesday that it's raising pay for workers at its company-owned U.S. restaurants, making it the latest employer to sweeten worker incentives in an improving economy.*(Photo: Amy Sancetta, AP)
Boston bombing case is headed to jurors
Prosecutors in the Boston Marathon bombing trial used their closing arguments today to tie the two Tsarnaev brothers together as a unified terror team. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's defense attorneys tried to persuade jurors that the younger brother, on trial for his life, was merely a willing accomplice in the deadly 2013 attacks. Jurors have to pick apart the statements, along with 15 days of testimony, to decide which narrative is true. They're expected to begin deliberations tomorrow. Tsarnaev faces 17 counts that could bring the death penalty. He faces a total of 30 counts in connection with the April 15, 2013, twin bombings.

Kentucky coach previews some heavy NBA defections
A mass exodus is likely coming for the University of Kentucky basketball team. Coach John Calipari said today he met with players individually the morning after the Wildcats' Final Four loss to Wisconsin to discuss their looming NBA decisions. "I would guess five would be the minimum" leaving "but seven is a distinct possibility," he said. Junior Willie Cauley-Stein, sophomores Andrew and Aaron Harrison and freshmen Karl-Anthony Towns and Trey Lyles are likely gone, while sophomore Dakari Johnson and freshman Devin Booker are also weighing their options. You can follow all the action in tonight's NCAA championship game between the Duke Blue Devils and the Wisconsin Badgers (9:18 p.m. ET on CBS) here.

It's time to save your favorite shows
If you're worried about your favorite shows getting canceled, listen up. USA TODAY has kicked off its 18th annual Save Our Shows poll for viewers like you. We look at 21 shows "on the bubble" between getting renewed and getting canceled by their networks, and we let you vote whether you want to keep 'em or lose 'em. Nashville, The Mindy Project and Bones are among the shows in danger this year. Last year, more than 144,000 readers voted, and eight of 15 bubble shows were renewed. That's why a vote, though far from the only factor, can help influence programmers. Make your voice heard now, and look for results early next month.
