Can Ben Carson assert himself as the new front-runner?
Boulder is famously liberal. The Republican field is famously not. What will happen at the University of Colorado debate tonight? A preview: Donald Trump will still be at center stage, but he’s now trailing Ben Carson in three polls in Iowa. Uh-oh. Carson is soft-spoken. Trump, not so much. And they've been less friendly in recent days, so watch for sparks to fly. (That's not a Colorado pot joke.) The record-size*GOP field (there will be 10 on stage tonight) is beginning to winnow. Here's how to watch tonight's debate, which starts at 8 p.m. ET on CNBC (the undercard debate is at 6 p.m. ET.)*We’ve got full social coverage of #GOPdebate – follow @usatoday2016 on Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat for live updates tonight, and look for Periscopes from @USATODAY.*And of course, you can find our bingo cards here.

Deputy fired because it's 'not acceptable' to throw a student across a room
It's a video that captured national attention. A South Carolina school resource officer throws a student across a classroom with a shocking show of force. Another recording — one of three —*showed the teen striking the officer.*Now the officer, Deputy Ben Fields,*has been fired. *Richmond County Sheriff Leon Lott said Wednesday that an internal investigation found that the force Fields used was "not based on training or acceptable." If there's a criminal investigation, it will be handled by federal and state agencies, but for now the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice have launched a civil rights investigation.

There might be something fishy about that fancy wild salmon you're about to eat
Well, this stinks. An advocacy group reports that in the winter months restaurants are mislabeling*entrees made from farmed salmon as pricier, more sustainable wild salmon.*Oceana, a*group that's previously found fraud in retail marketing of other fish, shrimp and crab cakes, released findings Wednesday that diners were misled in restaurants when ordering salmon 67% of the time.*Oceana also tested salmon in grocery stores, where the fish was less likely to be mislabeled — about 20% — and found that large grocery stores were significantly more reliable with salmon sourcing than small markets.

More Adele news that includes an awesome bit about Amy Winehouse
Ah, Adele. You make us so happy. We can't wait to stream *—*or maybe*buy —*25, due on Nov. 20.(And BTW, even though it's your first album in almost five years, and the question isn't if the release will be big – it's exactly how big it will be. Despite that flip phone in the video.) And then as we're waiting, you share the lovely personal nuggets that make us feel like we know you. Like how Amy Winehouse inspired you to write Daydreamer and Someone Like You. Yes, we miss her, too, but we're so happy to have you.
Take this to the bank: Guy cashes in 45 years' worth of pennies
Cha-ching! A Louisiana man cashed in 513,614 pennies*that he’s been collecting for 45*years. For those playing from home, that’s $5,136.14*filling*—*if you can picture it*— 15 5-gallon*plastic water jugs. Otha*Anders*said he never spent any pennies (he’d rather break a dollar) or took donations. Why? He says he "wanted the inner satisfaction that God and I acquired this collection.” It took the bank five hours*to count the pennies after the plastic jugs were hacked open with an ax and hammer.
