Oklahoma deputy who thought his gun was a taser is charged with manslaughter
The police department said it wasn't a crime. Prosecutors clearly disagree and charged Robert Bates, 73, a white Tulsa County reserve deputy, with second-degree manslaughter in the shooting death of 44-year-old Eric Harris, who is black. "Reserve" means Bates has a full-time job as an insurance executive but volunteers with the sheriff's department. Over the weekend, police released video showing Harris running away from officers who were chasing him on foot. He's caught and put to the ground. There's a struggle. Then Bates shoots Harris. Bates says he thought he'd grabbed his stun gun. After the gunshot, Bates says on video, "Oh, I'm sorry. I shot him." Tulsa police Sgt. Jim Clark, who investigated the case, determined on Friday the shooting wasn't a crime and didn't violate department policy. We also learned today that Bates is a big donor to the police department.

Marco Rubio enters the race; Hillary Clinton heads to Iowa, 'Scooby'-style
There are 574 days until Election Day. And if you're keeping track, there are three Republicans and one Democrat officially in the race. We're sure there will be more, but here's an accounting of where we are on this beautiful spring Monday. Marco Rubio today joined Ted Cruz and Rand Paul in the Republican ring. All three are senators; all three were elected with Tea Party support. Rubio's announcement comes the day after Hillary Clinton made her long-awaited entry into the Democratic side of the race. And speaking of Clinton, we just have to tell you about her road trip to Iowa — literally. She set off yesterday for events in the first-in-the-nation caucus state in a van nicknamed "Scooby," which reminds Clinton of The Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo. Google Maps says that's a little more than 1,000 miles or about 15.5 hours of driving time between Clinton's home in Chappaqua, N.Y., and Monticello, Iowa.
Jodi Arias will spend the rest of her life in an 86-square-foot cell
One of the most dramatic and notorious murder trials in recent history is finally over. Jodi Arias, who was convicted in 2013 for the 2008 murder of her lover, Travis Alexander, was sentenced today to life in prison with no chance for release. Two juries couldn't decide whether to sentence her to death, so a judge had to choose between giving Arias natural life in prison (never getting out) or life in prison with the possibility of release after 25 years. The judge chose the harsher sentence. When it was announced, Alexander's sister, Tanisha Sorenson, shouted, "Burn in hell!" This is what Arias' jail cell will look like. She'll likely appeal her conviction. If you didn't pay close attention to the case because you couldn't listen to Nancy Grace go on and on about Arias and the judge and the jury, you can catch up on the sordid affair in the 60-second video below.

No, Jordan, it wasn't a dream: You really won the Masters
Jordan Spieth played amazing golf at The Masters, breaking multiple records and winning his first major championship in the same type of way Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy did. He shot 2-under-par to finish 18-under 270, setting scoring marks of 130 after 36 holes and 200 after 54 along the way. He also made a record 28 birdies. Not only that, the 21-year-old won with class and grace, proving to be a clean-cut Masters champion for the ages. And when he woke up Monday, he took to social media with the simplest of tweets that shows he has an engaging personality that people will welcome in the next generation of golf.
Well.. I'm glad that wasn't a dream

On Capitol Hill, some ex-lawmakers are 'cashing in on their Rolodexes'
Nearly one quarter of the lawmakers who left Congress recently are working in positions aimed at influencing government policy, even though they're barred from lobbying their former colleagues and Capitol Hill staff for a set period of time. According to a USA TODAY tally, at least 18 former senators and House members have signed on with lobbying and consulting firms, trade groups, law firms and other organizations with business before the federal or state governments. The analysis examined the 77 people who served in the last Congress and either retired, resigned or lost their seats. Most left in January. "They are cashing in on their Rolodexes," said Craig Holman of the left-leaning advocacy group, Public Citizen. Read more of Fredreka Schouten's deep dive here.
